We are tired! We will not keep quiet, its not ok! I watched the video only today becos I have had a lot on my mind. I watched it at work and wish I hadnt. I could have shouted and laughed out loud like the video deserved. Its the video of the disruption of a town hall meeting in New York. It was great! Very inspiring! The protesters managed to embarrass the minister like they wanted to. She was visibly embarrassed and even though she tried to cover her consternation, even managing to sing in solidarity at some point, she did assess the situation appropriately and remain seated which was pretty smart of her. She probably knows how frustrated and unwilling Nigerians are with the government of the day. It was probably her understanding of it that necessitated the meeting, she was probably sent to ensure that those who matter in the Nigerian community in America be aware that their collective source of wealth would not be tampered with but she miscalculated. She misjudged how frustrating it is to watch the government bridle innocent citizens and even kill some. She misjudged how annoying it is to have to explain how much your government has missed the plot where governance and human rights are concerned especially living in a culture like that which exists in America where its almost unheard of before last year for protesters to be approached talk more of being manhandled and definitely not being killed. She misjudged the slow burn you do when facebook and twitter is all you have to deal with the situation and she sprinkled pepper on raw wounds by coming late. I think that was the last straw that really broke the protesters' humped backs and I can relate!
A government that cant think things through before implementing, that turns the organs of defence against its own people, a government that refuses to own up to mistakes, choosing rather to lie than fess up to its incompetence. I am just tired and so disappointed. The only thing that makes all of this worthwhile is the hope that's being stirred in the hearts of people, of young and not so young. Let's hope that our hope will not have its subsidy removed.
PAUSE- reading about bombs in Kano. Heard a young man has died, used to be Channels tv reporter. 31years old! Why does Nigeria feed off her young? Why is it difficult to get it right? Too sad to keep writing....tears fill my eyes, for the hope of the nation that keeps dying, daily..............
