PS--OJUKWU!!!

I'm sure you are tired of hearing how apolitical I am and how I do not understand the intricacies of politics so I will spare you. Still, I find myself drawn to a lot of politically interesting stuff that I should not be commenting on but still do anyway (na who go stop me, hen? dem never born!).

Anyway, on this rather auspicious day when I have all this nervous energy roaring through my body threatening to bring on vertigo that I neither need nor care for (expecting my bestest friend ever, BFF, SP, Divalicious partner in crime...oops!in righteousness*forming holy & pious*), I am appalled at the lack of deference that I observe as this great man is being escorted to his final resting place. Now, I dont know a lot about Biafra, the little I know was probably gleaned from reading Chinamanda Adichie's book a while back. I still think he is a great guy, he spoke his mind, not caring whose ox was gored.

I have since forgiven him his marrying Bianca (for reasons you would never believe, I was angry!), afterall, they stayed together all this while, which is more than can be said of many more favored-to-last marriages, jes saying!

Just that I remember how emotional and flooded Twitter & Facebook were when WH was being buried (hen ! I know she's an international star and died young in extremely emotional circumstances!me sef cry ke!)  but it just seems to me that not a lot of attention is being given to Ojukwu's burial. The only reason I am worried is that we may be developing an apathy to the type of heroes Nigeria needs and celebrating the wrong sort (case in point-Our very own(?) Ibori (the scallywag) who attempts to steal the shine off Ojukwu by 'fessing up' today that indeed, he and his sister were not born one month apart among other things!).

Ojukwu deserves some adulation (if people like Ibori got 12 people to ask for his freedom!), becos he at least stood and fought for principles which (I may not even pretend to understand) appeared to him at the time to be the best, at least he STOOD for something which is more than can be said of the rulership of Nigeria since then. Oh! No! That's not true, they do stand for their bellies in more ways than one so I cant be right, can I? Anyway, I just think its a big deal but I know we have discovered new expertise in outsourcing-education, basic necessities and more recently, bringing criminals to book, perhaps the next genre will be honoring our own? I daresay if a foreigner were to acknowledge his deep respect for Ojukwu, things may change overnight but would that not be a real pity though?

Anyway, here's my yown 21 gun salute! Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, sleep well! You took all that pertained to Nigeria personally and that's as should be and I deeply respect the strength of character it took to be you. Sleep well, Officer and Gentleman, well deserving of my yown version of the Nigerian awards.....Member of the Order of Real Men of Nigeria (MORN)!!!
