NIGERIA

Many are excited and luxuriating in the speech of Mrs Michelle Obama and just so we understand how deeply contrasted our society is from the one she lives in, we are told ( no other way to put it!) that Dana Air, the airline operators that owned the plane in which about 300 Nigerians lost their lives in addition to many others who were on the ground area where the plane crashed have been awarded their license to resume flight operations.

This, because, this follows government’s satisfaction with the air-worthiness of the airline after a rigorous technical, operational and financial audit of the airline.

I don't know much about planes or how long it takes to check out their worthiness but methinks 3 months is way too short! The premise on which suspending their licence was based was that many of the fleet's planes were purchased as old rejects with many of them being over an average of 15years old (if my memory serves me well). I have heard no announcements to the effect that the airline has purchased new planes, has done what it should with the old ones and come out to accept responsibility for the accident that occurred. So how can anyone tell me the Federal Government is satisfied with the air-worthiness of the airline? That is so hog-wash!

How can this nation be so adept at being inept?

Time and again, the people we have entrusted the responsibility of policing our nation have failed because they sacrificed the nation for their own selfish interests and this is one more instance (one too many, if you ask me!). My overactive imagination tells me that late-night visits have been made, some foreign exchange has been exchanged and for this a new exchange also had to be made......The Nigerian population sacrificed to the god of individual need for wealth and gratification. Pox on them all!

This year alone, the issues that have been raised that this nation could have scored points off of to establish right but which tend to clearly accentuate its lack of a structure, are myriad.

From the callous partial fuel subsidy removal in the early days of the year.......recently heard rumors that total fuel subsidy removal will be unleashed on Nigerians soon, very soon!

The debacle that the investigation into the fuel subsidy payments was is still a comedy of horrors when you think of how it led to Faroukgate and its ongoing.............ongoing what sef?

The seeming ineptitude of GEJ and his BH comments and how that is playing out....*touches wood* We all come to some parts of our life journey with some naivete and gullibility but Mr President is making a PhD of it in his case! Jessaying!

There seems to be one thing or another that Nigerians are given to grapple with week after week as if the issues of eking out a living in a hostile society which promotes, nay demands that each and everyone pulls down another or feeds on another to get ahead is not enough! Instead of nurturing one another, we are showed how to feed on each other and if we do not find a fellow Nigerian to feed on, any African will do ( another long story!).

This latest in the series of rapes of the Nigerian population is despicable and inhuman and I truly think those involved ought to be ashamed as they set the standard for a new low even by Nigerian standards. Its obvious what has gone down and even though I lost no-one in the crash, only relatives of friends, I shed a few tears, maybe because it felt like they were being killed all over again or maybe because it felt like we all were being told that their lives did not matter enough to have money, just money (never mind, it was a lot, I am sure!) for!!!

Madam Oduah and whoever is responsible for the latest in the series of rapes of the psyche of Nigerians need to understand that people will keep running when chased but when faced with a wall, they will have nowhere to run to and will then have to turn around and fight their pursuers.....I see a wall up ahead! Jessaying!
