Childbirth:
You are not supposed to feed the
child anything aside breast milk
The next time you are birthing
another, you are not supposed to starve the child! You must feed the child if
your breast milk has not come in.
You are supposed to put breast
milk in the child’s eyes to clear any ocular discharge.
You should place the child in the
early morning sun to treat jaundice in the first few days of life
If the child yawns on the breast,
it will hurt badly.
You must not forget to wipe the
child with olive oil or some similar oil or that child will have bad BO.
I could go on and on.
Marriage:
The father of the bride should
buy the wedding dress.
The broom should buy the wedding
dress.
The parents should buy the bride
her trousseau.
She should wear something old,
something new, something borrowed, something blue.
She should have family on her
train for goodluck.
She should not see her groom
before the ceremony.
She should not allow anything
remotely traditional on her engagement list.
She should not allow cultural
practices to becloud her religion.
Death:
Anyone older than the dead should
not attend the ceremonies.
You are not allowed to see anyone
who comes on a condolence visit off.
The siblings should buy the
coffin.
The bereaved must lose their
minds in grief or they are bad people.
The spouse must live miserable
lives thereafter to demonstrate that they loved their loved one.
On and on and on……
My take: if it works, do it! If
it doesn't, do what feels right to you to do.
Many rules have their origin in
some loudmouth’s inability to stomach all the shenanigans.
Find out what the rule is and
break it with impunity and watch that become the new rule!
Yes! I said it! Sue me!
