Love. Sickle Cell Day.

She rushed in, almost breathless, taking her coat off and smiling when she saw he was waiting with that slight smile on his face. There was no greater joy for her than when they were together. She kissed him and his face lit up. ‘How was your morning?’ She motioned for him to be quiet so as not to draw attention. He nodded, understanding her gestures and marveling that he did. This woman who makes him so happy.

He turned and gave something else his attention for two minutes and then looking up, he saw her dancing and could not believe it. He shook his head and gestured ‘loco’ with his hand to his head in a circular fashion. She nodded agreement vigorously and made raunchy movements with her bum. He looked shocked and gestured ‘More’ so she moved out of view. He feigned an arrow to his heart and she shook her head wondering, ‘how come I am so happy?’

She wanted to be miserable, sad and wear a long face but there was nothing in her heart that was anything like any of those. She was deliriously happy, sometimes bursting into song and having a private giggle with herself.

She earned this joy she muses with the misery and pain, terror and sadness that she had endured and it was due in part to this wonderful man but he also could be gone and she would still be happy.  She was at that point in the love in her heart.

She was back with him, teasing a smile out of the corner of his beautiful lips but he only wanted to continue the work he was intent on doing. She frowned and pursed her lips feigning anger and he rewarded her with a full-on smile and she almost fell backwards at the luminous beauty of his smile.

She mouthed, ‘I love you silly’ and he looks at her, turns away and pretends to grab her. She moved out of reach just in time for he turns around and biting his lip, whispers, ‘I love you more’ and this time she feigns death, falling back on her chair, toppling over and landing with a crash beside a pile of files on her office floor.

She jerks back to reality with a thud and reaches to switch off her screen but he is there looking worried and wondering if she is okay. She assures him that she is, turns off her SKYPE  and settles down to attempt to do some work, thinking ‘this cyber love will not be the death of me’……

It is World Sickle Cell Day…...

For you, yes, you!
